Bari’s Story

Bari Islam is a 35 year old farmer and business man from Bangladesh. He buys cattle from the markets, rears them and sells them off later at a higher rate to his purchase price.

Due to this, sometimes he has to transact in very large amounts. He felt that having a DFS account would be valuable. While he had felt this for a while, he was unable to open an account because he did not have an national ID. He recently received his and after consulting with a co-worker and an agent he picked a service provider brand that was widely considered safe and well known.

The next day, Bari visited the agent’s shop - an agent he knows well as he often recharges his phone there and began the process. A couple of steps in, Bari realised that he forgot his National ID and returned home to obtain it. Five minutes later, the process was completed.

The agent took care of everything, including capturing Bari’s photo and setting the PIN. During the photo session, Bari struggled to follow the agent’s instructions about blinking his eyes due to the crowded environment. However, after two attempts, the agent managed to get a successful photo. At the end of the process, the agent handed Bari a piece of paper with the PIN written on it.
