Khabungala’s Story
Khabungala Evelyn is a 25-year-old woman from Mbale, Uganda who had to discontinue her education after Primary 6. She spends most of her time engaged in farming activities. Initially, she owned a phone, but after it broke, she couldn't afford to replace it and went without one for some time.
Eventually, she received a new phone from Kei Phones, which opened the door for her to explore digital financial services (DFS) and social media.
Although using a smartphone can be challenging for her, Khabungala often turns to her father for assistance when she encounters difficulties. One day, her mother suggested that she open a bank account, but Khabungala felt uncertain about the process due to her limited reading and writing skills. She asked her mother for help, and requested her to accompany her to the bank so they could navigate the process together as this made her feel more confident.
