Dominik’s Story
Dominik is a 33-year-old from Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. He runs a water refill business with his wife, relying entirely on cash transactions as all his suppliers and customers deal in cash. The merchants around him also use cash, making digital payments impractical for him. Dominik enjoys surfing social media to see promotions from local retail supermarkets.
To run the business, he uses his and his wife's savings, along with loans from relatives, preferring this over bank loans due to the lack of interest and less pressure.
"I borrowed a certain amount from a trusted relative, with no interest, and I paid it off. Thankfully, it's all paid off now. I've never considered borrowing from a bank because I'm afraid of the burden of borrowing from a company. That's why I never take out loans for a house. I'm scared, so I try to pay in cash as much as possible." - Domnik
At one point, he needed to update his smartphone to support his business. He came across a digital lending advertisement on social media and decided to apply. He asked his wife for help with onboarding but frequently failed in the ID card submission process. Despite asking around and searching on YouTube, the problem persisted. He has tried several times and keeps failing without knowing the reason.
