Mariam’s Story
Mariam is a 38 year farmer and business woman from Uganda who lives with her family and extended family. When transacting, she both uses mobile money and cash. To further optimise her use of the account Mariam wanted to add another bank account. She heard on a radio commercial that this could be done remotely using a USSD code.
She gathered all her documents and began the process at home. A couple of steps later, Mariam encountered a challenge as the interface slowed down and the later failed to respond to any of her inputs.
She called the bank to gain more clarity on the situation and was informed that she would need to come to the bank as part of her next steps. Mariam eventually opted out of the service as taking the time to the bank in -person simply was not feasible due to her responsibilities at home
