Nina’s Story
Nina is a 39-year-old vegetable farmer who rents a plot of land near her home to supplement her husband’s primary income as a security guard. Though she visits the farm three times a week, she enjoys staying updated on current events through TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. Her familiarity with these platforms has also led her to discover digital payment systems like OVO, Gopay, and ShopeePay, influenced by her frequent use of e-commerce and ride-hailing services.
Although all her farming transactions are in cash, she has a bank account which she opened 15-16 years ago for payroll when she worked. Currently, she uses it to save some money or pay installment through ATM.
Nina had no prior knowledge of digital lending until a salesperson introduced her to it during a family visit to a mall. Initially, she agreed to register only to help the salesperson meet her target, as she was told there was no obligation to use the service after signing up. Months later, after not using the service, the salesperson contacted her again, offering a 0% installment plan for a smartphone. Needing the phone, Nina decided to give it a try and successfully completed the installment. This built her trust in the platform, and now she frequently uses it to pay for utilities like electricity and water bills when she's short on cash.
“When I don’t have money, I use it PayLater service. I bought a smartphone with it previously before using it for payment, so the trust arises.” - Nina
