Roni’s Story
Roni manages her small coffee shop with his wife who responsible managing all the money they have both for the business and household.
With IDR 200k of daily income, he thinks it is still convenient to manage the money in cash. Moreover, all his supplier receive payment in cash.
He is an active social media user, frequently on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, which exposes him to many ads for digital financial services (DFS). Although he knows about app-based cashless transactions, his phone’s limited memory and the effort required to top up accounts have prevented him from installing these apps. However, his wife became curious about the trend and signed up for OVO when a salesperson approached her. The entire onboarding process was handled by his wife with the salesperson's help. After six months, less than five customers had used OVO, as most preferred cash, leading him to forget the account details and leave the app unused, especially as the phone number associated with it became inactive.
“It gets tiring (using QRIS), no need. Our customers mainly pay in cash. To withdraw the money, we need to collect little by little. If cash we can directly hold it in hand. Only a few people use QRIS, I need to wait until it’s 50k before I can withdraw it. And I still need to wait the next day before it’s in my bank account, meanwhile I need to use the money now for restocking.”- Roni
